Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

This group unites adult female survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Our group focuses on creating a safe and supportive community, learning skills for managing anxiety, understanding the effects of sexual abuse trauma, building empowerment, and improving the health of our minds, bodies and relationships. The group includes trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and art therapy.

Parents and Caregivers of Sexually Abused Children

This group is for parents and caregivers who are parenting a child who has been sexually
abused and who have not abused their children. Using art and talk therapy we will build
a support network, learn how to support a child and yourself after sexual abuse occurs,
learn more information about sexual abuse dynamics, and enrich parenting skills specific
to sexual abuse protection and prevention.

These groups meet in Portland. Please contact
Molly McDavitt, ATR, LPC if you are interested in learning more about these groups.

Eating Disorder Support Group

A drop in group for individuals, 18 and older, who suffer from Eating Disorder symptoms. Open to all regardless of whether an Eating Disorder has been diagnosed.
A Better Way Counseling Center, 818 NW 17th Ave., Portland OR 97209, in the 1st Floor group room.
Thursdays from 6-7pm

1st & 3rd weeks offer moderated discussion focusing on mutual support, encouragement, sharing of information, and working through issues of recovery. 2nd & 4th feature a suggested art activity to help with stress management and/or ways to strengthen a more loving and compassionate bond with the self. As with any open group, confidentiality is on an honor system. We use first names and ask only for a signed consent agreement. Participants are welcome to share/participate as much or as little as they wish. We can also provide referrals to services, either at our clinic or out in the community, for those seeking additional help. Art activities are typically easy for anyone to complete; participants may also use the time and materials to work on their own creative piece during art based groups.

Moderated by Serena Appel, MA, Mental Health Therapist with A Better Way. My background is in Art Therapy, evidence based treatments, and psychodynamically-informed treatment of Eating Disorders. I enjoy meeting and working with teens and adults from all walks of life.
We post the group schedule, and any alerts as to changes or cancellations, on our clinic website:
